Unearthing Our Dream
The core of every Omi Privé fine jewelry piece lies within the colored gemstone it reveals. The grandeur and the focal point, each gem is resonant of the past. We believe that every individual today has the ability to connect with a stone. In its essence, each gemstone is a living treasure from nature that should speak to the viewer. It is our determination to bring the stones to life through the jewelry in which they are presented.
Gemstones are among the earth’s greatest rarities. The love of stones is in our blood; it is a part of who we are, and showcases where we are destined. We purvey hidden parts of the world to source the jewels that inspire great design. Every Omi Privé piece reveals our connection to nature. Each gem is a rarity and an exclusive insight to millions of year past. An Omi Privé gemstone is natural, valuable, and exceptional.
Rich In Tradition
The Omi Gems family dates back seven generations to Burma in the 1800’s. Decades of wars and close escapes from political unrest followed. With a handful of gems, a brilliant outlook, and a clear mindset, Omi Nagpal and his loving wife, Preeti, came to the United States. There, they founded and built a loose gemstone house that over time became synonymous with the world’s most valuable jewels. Now, the Los Angeles-based company is lead by Omi’s son, Niveet. As head designer, Niveet has continued the family’s reputation and high integrity through the Omi Privé fine jewelry collection.
Niveet carries his family’s deep appreciation for the inherent beauty of each gem. Through multiple manufacturing destinations and years of testing high methods of jewelry fabrication, Niveet has determined the finest craftsmanship in the United States. Though only years old, this collection stems from decades of tradition in loose colored stones. He settles for nothing less than to produce works of jewelry equivalent to the values of the gems they showcase.
A Current Take On An Old Craft
Every jewelry piece must reach the ultimate level of quality to bear the Omi Privé namesake; therefore, nothing is compromised along its journey. All settings are fabricated in the United States. Our designs are most often crafted by hand to meet discerning standards. Our French pavé is hand set, rather than cast.
We take pride in uniting traditional manufacturing techniques with the use of modern equipment. Most Omi Privé ring shanks are specifically formed from drawn wire, a method that dates back to Ancient Roman times. This forms a stronger, thicker concentration of metal with minimal to no porosity. All diamonds set in our designs are graded F to G in color and VS or higher in clarity. They are matched by cutting style and make, ensuring superior quality amongst even the smallest of stones.
Our continuous manufacturing efforts are driven to meet and enrich the quality of the jewels encased. The fine settings we produce increase the high values of the gemstones. Our craftsmen know that every piece created is a presentation to frame and enhance one of the world’s purest formations. We take pride in the additional value created through the designs themselves.
An Unending Passion
Our passion lies within the belief that every gemstone is a gift from nature. The array of colors portrayed from the earth truly reveals the wonder, the rarity, and the foundation from where everything begins. Through our fine jewelry, we strive to connect this rarity to current endeavors and everyday emotions.
The organic purity of colored stones is the foundation that impels us. We relish in the creation of high style that allows these rare stones to tap into the wearer’s spirit and soul. Before any crafting begins, each gem is selectively cut and polished to depict its utmost brilliance. The jewel is carefully studied to envision the design that will showcase its individual splendor, and will enliven that stone. Uniting the nature of the gemstone with the art of design is our specialty.
An Eternal Vision
Immeasurable emotions encompass a life. The warmth, vigor, and energy that accompany the most powerful parts of it are embodied in every Omi Privé piece. Times of change envelope a flow of decisions and sentiments. Our mission is to cherish these emotions, and to complete the puzzle. We unite the earth’s organic color with a true form of art to represent these times of fervor and excitement.
Each jewel is a dream; it is a celebration of life and happiness. Created millions of years ago, the gemstones are presented through current works of art in celebrations of today. The Omi Privé fine jewelry collection is an anthology of ageless heirlooms. Our dreams lie in these everlasting pieces of passion & emotion.

The first rule for caring for fine colored gemstone jewelry is to treat it as any possession of value. Avoid wearing gemstone jewelry during activities that could cause damage, including yard work, outdoor activities, sporting activities, etc. As for cleaning, keep it simple. It is best to clean colored gemstone jewelry using a mild solution of soap and warm water. After letting the jewelry soak, gently brush with a soft-bristled brush. Rinse the jewelry thoroughly, and lay it on a soft cloth to dry. It is best to avoid cleaning colored gemstone jewelry in ultrasonic cleaners, or with harsh chemicals or abrasives. It is recommended to apply any lotions or perfumes prior to putting on colored gemstone jewelry. Pearls, opals, and emeralds should be especially protected from contact with perfumes, cosmetics and hairsprays. Store each piece of jewelry in separate sections of a jewelry box or in individual fabric pouches. For the best protection, it is recommended to have fine jewelry regularly inspected and cleaned by a trusted jeweler.
Natural gemstones come from the earth, and are mined worldwide. Some natural gemstones can be enhanced, which means they are treated in some way (such as being subjected to heat) to improve their color or clarity. Please click here for further details regarding colored gemstone treatments. Every gemstone in an Omi Privé design is a natural stone from the earth.
Laboratory-created gemstones, which can also be referred to as manufacturer-created or synthetic stones, have essentially the same chemical, physical, and optical properties as their natural gemstone counterparts. Laboratory-created gemstones do not possess the same rarity or value as natural colored gemstones, since they are grown in a laboratory and form with human intervention. Although they share chemical and physical properties, a professional gemologist will be able to recognize the difference between a natural and synthetic stone through proper testing. Every gemstone in an Omi Privé design is natural, from the earth, and never a laboratory-created, or synthetic, stone.
Beyond traditional cutting and polishing, natural gems can often be treated in ways meant to alter their color or clarity. In addition to enhancing their appearance, the process may also improve (or in some cases diminish) the gem’s durability. It is necessary and legally required for anyone selling a gem to disclose the treatment procedure it may have received. In the United States, the Federal Trade Commission has established a set of consumer guidelines outlining the need for treatment disclosures and special care requirements. Omi Privé is responsible for disclosing all treatment for the natural gemstones within our designs. If you have a question about whether a stone you are interested in has been treated or not, please email us at prive@omigems.com. The term “semi-precious” is somewhat misleading as it suggests that some gemstones have inferior value. Years ago, most people considered ruby, emerald and sapphire as the “precious” gemstones and all others as “semi-precious.” In truth, all natural colored gemstones are rare and precious and their prices are determined by the availability and quality of the gemstone.
Simply put, the type of gemstone and color you select should be the one you like the most, the one that will give you the most pleasure to wear. However, colored gemstones are judged by their beauty and rarity. The same “four Cs” that establish quality in diamond are used for colored gemstones: cut, carat weight, clarity and most importantly, color. Color: The more pure and vivid the color, the more valuable the gemstone. Cut: All gemstones must be cut well to attain their maximum potential for beauty. Quality cutting is what produces the brilliance and scintillation that captures the eye of the beholder. Clarity: Gemstones contain characteristic inclusions that provide proof of their natural origin. Those inclusions should not be so visible that they detract from the beauty of the gemstone. Carat Weight: Obviously, larger gemstones are rarer. However, some gemstones, such as amethyst and tourmaline, routinely occur in very large sizes while others, such as ruby and sapphire, rarely occur in sizes above 2 to 3 carats.
A gemstone certificate or gemstone report is an official document issued by a licensed gemological laboratory that states the characteristics and qualities of a gemstone. Each of these labs is an independent authority, which performs professional examination of gemstones, according to very strict industry and government standards. With very specialized equipment, most reputable labs can determine the gemstone material, detectable treatments, country of origin and much more. There are a number of reputable gemological laboratories that offer gemstone certification services, included but not limited to; the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), American Gemological Laboratories (AGL), European Gemological Laboratory USA (EGL), International Gemological Institute (IGI), and the Gubelin Gemological Laboratories (Gubelin). Many designs offered by Omi Privé are accompanied with a gemstone certificate from one or more of these reputable 3rd party labs (if an Omi Privé design does have a certificate, you will see an image of it in the product detail photos).
Gemstones may be measured by weight, size, or both. The basic unit for weighing stones is the carat, which is equivalent to one-fifth (1/5th) of a gram. Carats are divided into 100 units, called points. For example, a half-carat gemstone weighs 0.50 carats (ct) or 50 points. Gemstones are commonly measured by size in metrics, with stone dimensions measured and documented in millimeter increments.
