Omi Privé Also Named Grand Prize Winner of
First W Magazine Readers’ Choice Award
(Los Angeles, CA—April 2013) Omi Privé’s tsavorite and diamond platinum ring design has been named the “Best Platinum over $10,000” in the Sixth Annual JCK Jewelers’ Choice Awards. Hailed as the jewelry industry’s highest honor, the Jewelers’ Choice Awards, presented by JCK Magazine, honor excellence in jewelry design and craftsmanship in a variety of categories. Voting is held online through JCK Online, an industry website, where all retail jewelers cast votes for their favorites over a three-month duration. Omi Privé’s pink sapphire and diamond 3-stone rose gold ring was also recognized as a finalist in the category of “Best Bridal $5,001-$10,000.”
The winning tsavorite ring is handcrafted in platinum, and was designed specifically for the center 7.10 carat cushion-cut tsavorite garnet. It is accented with 0.85 carats of brilliant round diamonds. Niveet Nagpal, head designer and President of Omi Privé, describes the gemstone as the inspiration for the piece, “This tsavorite emanates a multitude of hues like few garnets we have seen. It is rare in size, color and brilliance. We sought to create a ring design as unique as its mint-green color, but that would not overshadow the rarity and beauty of the stone itself.”
This year also marks the start of a unique consumer award that was organized to honor Jewelers’ Choice finalists. After voting concluded for the Jewelers’ Choice Awards, JCK submitted the top 10 “jewelers’ favorites” to W Magazine for further participation in the W Magazine Readers’ Choice Award. W Magazine readers voted, and selected Omi Privé’s platinum tsavorite ring as the winner.
“It is an honor that the 7.10 carat tsavorite ring has been acclaimed amongst our industry’s top jewelers. We were especially humbled when it was also chosen by the readers of W Magazine. We are thrilled that this rare gemstone can now be showcased as an Omi Privé winner!” remarks Nagpal.

A great amount of time has elapsed since my last entry; however, this is due to a hectic (and exciting) start of the year! From aiding in the selection of loose gemstones at the AGTA Gem Fair in Tucson to contemplating new design ideas with our head designer, Niveet Nagpal, I have enjoyed every minute of placing up-and-coming pieces into Privé production! While I cannot wait to reveal all of the exciting additions to the line in the next few months, for now, I would like to address a subject that is definitely noticeable in the fashion – and retail – sector: the reemergence of rose gold.
It is true that mixed metals has been an ongoing trend, represented in all facets of the jewelry industry – from costume to couture. Whether worn alone, or used with other tones of gold in mixed-metal pieces, rose gold has certainly carried a strong presence into 2013. In the last nine months, the industry has seen the reentry of this tinted metal that has conveniently managed to subside over the decades, but has definitively resurfaced.
Rose gold first gained popularity in the beginning of the nineteenth century in Russia, and was earmarked at the time as Russian Gold. It became popular in the United States in the 1920’s. With the use of copper as the main alloy, this gold mixture gained its name from the pink hue it emanates.
Like most women, I love rose gold. There is a warm quality about the metal tone that makes it different enough to be unique, but still valuable and classic enough to withstand capsizing trends. It is perfect for today’s high jewelry consumer, who seeks individuality without compromise of quality.
Omi Privé customers epitomize this. Many new pieces in the Omi Privé collection have been designed entirely in 18K rose gold, as it ideally compliments pink and orange gemstones, from fancy colored sapphire and spinel to fine rubellite or spessartite garnet.

“On the fifth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me… five golden rings!”
Well, it may not always be anticipated to give five gold rings, but it is widely known that jewelry is one of the best gifts to give – and receive – for the holidays. For some, purchasing jewelry may seem a bit daunting. There is a certainty that many need before committing to an item so costly, and as personal, as jewelry. It can especially seem stressful when choosing a gift for a significant other, aiming to get a piece he/she will love and enjoy without any reservation, while making the best investment possible!
It is also widely known and understood that the holiday season often brings a level of financial stress to surface in general. For many, holiday shopping, while thrilling and fun, definitely puts an unwanted dent in the checkbook. Consumers are marketed to by most brands that feature their products in “gift guides,” insisting that they offer gift items to fit any budget.
It is no secret that jewelry is costly. Therefore, I am taking a different approach this holiday season. The great emphasis on the monetary costs of gift-giving rather takes away from the true intent of it – to give the recipient something meaningful that shows thought and care. Instead of focusing intensely on monetary costs, shift the focus of the holiday purchase to the personality of the recipient, and what style she most often caters to.
I have compiled some favorite Omi Privé pieces into a handy chart to assist purchasers with their selections, dividing jewelry tastes into four style categories.
For the individualist – seek pieces that feature more rare and unique stones set in distinctive designs. Alexandrite, a natural color-changing stone, is always a conversation starter! Green tsavorite, orange spessartite, and red spinel pop and stand out on any skin tone.
For the show-stopper, seek out one-of-a-kind designs that are not as commonly seen or available in the market. Obviously, many feel that the larger the item, the better, in this case. Most will agree that a knock-out piece does not always necessarily have to be enormous in size to catch the eye. Distinctive designs can often attract equivalent attention.
Please feel free to peruse these pieces, and use my easy-to-read guide of how to give (and receive) Omi Privé color this season!
Engagement 101’s second annual Bridal Jewelry Awards began with hundreds of submissions from distinguished jewelry designers from around the world, including Omi Privé. After a rigorous nomination process that whittled the submissions to just 48, the selections were then divided into eight categories of popular ring trends, including “Best Woman’s Wedding Band”.
Omi Privé was delighted to be selected and presented among five other prestigious designers in the category. Through the month of November, thousands of men and women visited YourEngagement101.com to cast their vote for their favorite “ring of the year”. We are highly honored to have our Sapphire and Diamond eternity wedding band voted the “Women’s Wedding Band” of the year for 2012! Thank you everyone for your votes!
